Humphrey qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1975 after training with a small firm where he remained for some time. He then moved to a medium-sized firm where he spent five years and his particular experience related to electronics, textile and paper manufacturing industries. He also gained experience of financial investigations of many kinds including documentation for public offers. He joined Horwath Clark Whitehill LLP in 1988 and became a partner based in the High Wycombe office later in that year. He is now a partner in the London office where he is Head of Forensic Accounting. He became a Member of the Academy of Experts in 1991. He has retained some local audit clients involved in a number of diverse industries and include owner-managed companies, partnerships and sole traders. He acts as an expert witness in cases involving the work of accountants, both in regulatory and civil matters. He has experience of calculating loss of profits in a wide range of cases and also business valuations. He also carries out expert determinations under the President’s Appointment Scheme. He has experience of acting in criminal matters in particular confiscation orders as well as investigating fraud. He is a member of the Thames Valley Police Liaison Panel. He has had a number of articles published in the legal press as well as writing the “Accountants Digest on Forensic Accounting” for Tolleys. He has also made an educational video for The Law Channel of The Television Education Network entitled “Schedules of Damages in Personal Injury Cases”.
