George Cranston, Partner George has led the Corporate Finance division in the UK since its formation in 1992. George has over 20 years experience in providing a broad range of corporate finance services to companies of all sizes in both the quoted and private sector. His experience includes the raising of venture and development capital, debt and equity fund raising, management buy outs and buy ins, divestitures and advisory services in respect of corporate acquisitions. Recently George has been providing services to companies in the healthcare and media sectors but he also has significant experience in retail and engineering. George is also managing partner for the London office. Peter Varley, Partner Peter has experience in a broad range of corporate finance services and has advised companies in a number of diverse sectors. Clients have included both small and medium sized privately owned companies and substantial public companies. Peter and his team have worked on a number of cross border transactions, including transactions involving companies with operations in the US, China, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Romania, Russia, Spain, Turkey and other territories. Peter has provided clients with a range of due diligence and investigation services including pre acquisition due diligence, pre lending and viability reviews for banks, pre investment due diligence for financial institutions and assignments for different government departments. This experience has included Reporting Accountant responsibilities on a number of transactions including IPOs on the Official List of the London Stock Exchange, AIM and other public markets plus transaction support on acquisitions, reverse takeovers and other public circulars. Peter has experience in a diverse cross section of industries including vehicle parts, specialty chemicals, property, publishing, food manufacturing, recruitment, real estate agencies, lighting products, auto dealerships, oil & gas, manufacturing, financial services and many others. Pat Moore, Partner Pat heads up Corporate Finance in the Midlands. She is well known in the Midlands Corporate Finance community and has been an active adviser for many years, formerly in the listed company arena but latterly in the private sector. She adopts a common sense approach to all of her transactions. Pat specialises in a wide range of corporate finance transactions including: Management buy-outs, Management buy-ins, acquisitions, sales of companies, mergers, group reorganisations and fund raising, mainly for the SME and owner-managed business, dealing with both UK and International buyers and sellers of businesses. Her experience covers a wide variety of sectors including manufacturing, distribution and IPR led businesses. Pat is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and has an advanced Diploma in Corporate Finance. Corporate audit and assurance David Devon, Partner David Chitty, Partner David Chitty is a partner responsible for providing audit services to companies listed on the London Stock Exchange and AIM. David’s clients are drawn from sectors including technology, telecommunications, property and professional services. He has a particular interest in businesses with international activities. Separately, David is a member of the Council of the ICAEW and is Vice-Chairman of the Institute’s Practice Advisory Board. He is editor of Auditing & Reporting, which is the annual reference guide to Auditing Standards and has written several books on professional matters. Nigel Bostock, Partner Nigel is a partner specialising in the audit of corporate and LLP clients. He has valuable experience with financial reporting at all levels and specialises in both UK GAAP and the IRFS requirements for financial reporting. He is co-author of the Informa Self Study Course ‘IRFS in Practice’. He has worked with a number of listed companies on the specific challenges arising from the accounting treatment and Financial reporting for share bank payments. Martin Israel , Partner Martin is an experienced audit and business assurance partner with over 25 years in general practice, specialising in advising clients in a wide range of industries, including motor, travel, retail, property, recruitment and training. He has significant depth and breadth of experience in entrepreneurial family owned businesses and also advises foreign companies looking to set up UK operations. He has been involved in a large number of corporate transactions, typically involving owner-managed businesses selling out to large corporates or floating on AIM. Ian Dale, Partner, Thames Valley Ian has extensive experience in providing corporate advice, audit services and transaction support to both private and listed companies in a wide variety of industries. Ian is a member of the firm’s National Executive Team, its listed company groups and is the non-executive chairman of Horwath Clark Whitehill Financial Services Limited.
Michael Jayson, Partner Michael is the Managing Partner of the Manchester office and is responsible for providing audit and accounting services to a full range of clients including corporates and LLPs, across many different sectors and ranging from OMBs to listed companies. He is experienced in the reporting requirements of listed companies and advises on the adoption of IFRS. Michael also has wide experience in financial services and AIM flotations. Mark Anderson, Partner Mark is an audit and client services partner in the Kent office, and he brings to this role a wide experience of auditing large and medium-sized owner-managed businesses and PLCs together with business start-ups and funding, transaction support work and business, strategic and financial planning. Keith Newman, Partner Keith is the Managing Partner of the Kent office. Keith specialises in advising clients in relation to acquisitions, expansion and raising of finance where appropriate. His clients cover a wide range of corporate bodies from publicly listed companies to sole traders and he has particular expertise in the food and construction industries. His business philosophy is to match the firm’s high technical standards to sensible commercial business advice. Corporate tax services David Mellor, Partner David leads our Corporate Group in London and specialises in the taxation of companies and their shareholders and particular multinational and quoted groups. His background is in corporate and international tax, corporate finance and cross border deal structuring and M&A. He has particular expertise in structuring international groups, tax incentives for shareholders, planning for growth, acquisitions and divestments and helping clients maximise their wealth. David is a member of the QCA tax committee, working for the needs of quoted companies outside the FTSE 350. His particular industry expertise lies in mining & minerals, hotels leisure & tourism, telecommunications, software & IT, media & advertising.
Nigel Glover, Partner Nigel is a partner specialising in the taxation of companies and their shareholders. His clients include several major UK listed companies as well as a number of smaller quoted and family owned businesses. Paul Fay, Partner Paul’s main focus is on advisory work for larger corporates, covering transfer pricing, cross border tax planning and tax efficient structuring of transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, mergers, demergers, flotations and reorganisations. Paul also has wide experience of negotiating with the UK Revenue on contentious issues.
Other Tax Services VAT Arthur Blackburn, Partner Prior to joining Horwath Clark Whitehill, Arthur was a senior officer with HM Customs and Excise for eight years where his duties included visiting businesses and training other officers in VAT. He became Partner in Horwath Clark Whitehill's specialist VAT Group on 1 January 1998 and has been with Horwath Clark Whitehill since November 1989. Arthur considers himself an 'all-rounder' in VAT terms although invariably his work is in the complicated area of land and property, partial exemption and e-commerce. He regularly lectures on a wide range of VAT subjects particularly to the charity and other not-for-profit making sectors. Arthur is a member of the VAT Practitioners Group. Employers' Advisory Group David Daly, Partner The Employers' Advisory Group (EAG) is a dedicated unit established to provide services on all aspects of employee taxation and remuneration planning. A former Inspector of Taxes, David has over 25 years of experience specialising in PAYE, National Insurance and benefit-related matters. He regularly advises clients and provides a telephone 'hotline' service for clients who need urgent advice on employment-related issues. David is well known outside of Horwath Clark Whitehill as co-author of Gees A to Z of Benefit and Expenses and regularly lectures on the subject. He is also the partner in charge of our National Tax Investigation Group which, among other things, handles PAYE and National Insurance inspections.
