Inheritance Tax planning

Inheritance Tax remains a significant burden on an individual’s Estate – 40% on the total value of all assets in excess of the nil-rate band (currently £325,000) – so it is likely to be an issue for many people.

In recent years, the Government has restricted the opportunities for planning to mitigate the inheritance tax payable on death. Nevertheless such planning is still key to ensuring that the amount which passes to chosen beneficiaries is maximised, and that tax is not paid unnecessarily.

The Horwath Clark Whitehill Private Clients team are able to offer a tailor-made strategy to our clients which may encompass a combination of options, including:

  • the making of gifts
  • use of trusts
  • using reliefs and exemptions
  • solutions involving financial products
  • review Wills to ensure they are structured in a tax-efficient way.

We recognise that these discussions can be sensitive in nature, and our partners and staff have extensive experience in dealing with such matters. We are also very happy to work alongside lawyers and other professionals to give you a seamless service.
